Inspired by the long summer evenings, Shetland Reel decided to create a refreshing and aromatic gin especially for summer. In Shetland, Simmer Dim is the name for the long days in summer where the sun barely dips below the horizon before soaring high for another day. These lasting amber skies gave them the inspiration for their limited edition Simmer Gin, released for World Gin Day 2016.
Est. – August 2014
Location – Unst, Shetland
Owner – Frank and Debbie Strang
Serving Suggestions – As always this works great with tonic but for an extra special twist, try with Fevertree Sicilian Lemonade and a sprig of fresh rosemary.
Nose: The nose opens with strong juniper nose and then sweet orange comes through. On the pallet the juniper is reduced and it becomes sweet, very sweet orange and liquorice with a sweet lingering finish. With tonic there is more juniper on the nose but also an earthiness associated with the liquorice. On the palate you get orange, some juniper then moving to general sweetness and a very lingering orangeyness.
